Thais urged to monitor ill-intentioned activities

BANGKOK, 19 February 2012 (NNT) – The Transport Minister of Thailand has instructed all units under his ministry to provide public safety as best as possible while urging the general public to help monitor and report suspicious activities to prevent unprecedented incidents.

Referring to three bomb blasts in Bangkok on February 14, Transport Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan said he believed foreign confidence should not be shaken by the incidents and that the situation would soon return to normalcy.

Amidst growing concerns about terror attacks, the minister requested Thai people in every sector to be on the lookout for ill-intention activities and help restore confidence in the country.

Touching on the lack of explosive detection device at BTS stations, Mr. Jarupong pointed out that BTS commuters normally do not carry large baggage and using such scanners would cause inconvenience during rush hours.

Nonetheless, security officers on duty have been strictly ordered to do regular patrols in the areas around every BTS station, he added.
