BANGKOK, 16 January 2012 (NNT) – A six-storey building in Soi Arun Amarin 30, Bangkok has collapsed, injuring three people. Authorities believe the soil under the ground has been soaked for a long time as a result of the flood crisis.
The Bang Plad district police and forensic officers have inspected the damage caused by the building collapse, which hurt three people, and damaged two motorcycles as well as a nearby house.
According to a public works official, the building which was to be converted into an apartment building was under renovation. A witness said he heard a sound of steel or cement crumbling before the building collapsed.
From the initial investigation, there was nothing wrong with the steel rods. The official believes that the collapse was caused by the soft, and possibly subsiding, soil underneath the building. Further investigation is underway.
