Monsoon expected to make landfall across Thailand

BANGKOK, 7 August 2011 (NNT) – The National Disaster Warning Center has alerted Thai people across the country of possible flash floods and mudslides in flood prone areas during this time as a tropical storm is expected to make a landfall.

In the Northeast, Surin Governor Mr. Pipop Damthongsook has been told by the Center to warn its residents who live in the low lying areas and near the rivers. He added these areas have been determined by the Department of Mineral Resources as disaster prone areas.

According to the National Disaster Warning Center, a monsoon from China normally moves past the North, the Northeast, the Central Region and the South from August to November. Flash floods and mudslides can be expected as a result of heavy rains during this time of the year. Residents in the said areas have been advised to keep themselves updated on the weather forecasts and disaster warnings. They are encouraged to call 192 or 02-399 4114 for more information and updates.
