It’s official, Thailand launches 3G service

Today marks another small step for Thai telecommunications as the first non-government affiliated carrier lunches its commercial 3G service.

AIS has blitzed the competition with launching Thailand’s first commercial 3G service, initially covering seven provinces in Thailand. Until now, 3G has been a footnote to 2G services as it was being “tested” in limited areas of coverage in a couple of provinces.

DTAC is expected to launch its own 3G service on its 850MHz spectrum in August.
