Thai Court rejects Red Shirt leader’s request for temporary release to vote in election

BANGKOK, June 28 – Thailand’s Criminal Court on Tuesday rejected a request for bail from key leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) Jatuporn Prompan who sought temporary release from jail to vote in the July 3 general election, saying there is no reason to change an earlier court verdict.

The court cited a previous court decision which refused to grant him bail and stated that there were no new grounds for reconsidering the request. Mr Jatuporn, a former member of parliament, is now a party list candidate for the opposition Pheu Thai Party.
