Thai Army chief dismisses pro-Democrat order

BANGKOK, 3 June 2011 (NNT) – Army Commander-In-Chief General Prayut Chan-O-Cha has downplayed a news report that local army bases in some provinces asked their officers to vote for the Democrat Party in the upcoming advance election.

General Prayut stated that the army has never ordered its officers to vote for any particular political party and he did not want to argue or comment anything further to prevent never-ending verbal exchanges. He then asked all sides not to involve the military with politics.

Earlier, Pheu Thai party-listed candidate Natthawut Saikua disclosed that an army commander in the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon ordered officers to vote for the Democrats in the upcoming elections.
