Thai Airways adds low cost airline to its fleet

BANGKOK, 15 June 2011 (NNT) – Thai Airways President Piyasvasti Amranand has announced a plan to establish a low cost airline, a sister brand to the Thai Airways, under the business expansion plan.

The sister airline, which has been named Thai Wings, will come under the management of Thai Airways. However, it will use the same logo but at smaller size and fly shorter distances such as those in Thailand and surrounding countries.

According to Mr. Piyasvasti, Thai Airways is not required to get a permit from the Ministry of Transport to launch its low cost airline as it is considered a branch of Thai Airway’s service the same way Thai Cargo is operated.
