BANGKOK, 5 April 2011 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has assured that the general election will be held as planned while urging all sides to stop making speculations about a military coup.
In the midst of circulating rumors pertaining to a possible coup d’état, Election Commissioner Praphan Naikowit insisted that the dissemination of such groundless information should be put to an end as it would not benefit the nation and would ruin foreigners’ confidence. He pointed out that there had been no signs of a coup and military officials had been instructed to remain neutral. He also cited repeated confirmation by Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan and Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha that there would not be any change of the election plan.
