Thailand pledges rice, 5 million dollars in aid to Japan

Bangkok – The Thai cabinet on Monday approved 200 million baht (5 million dollars) in funds for relief aid to tsunami-stricken Japan along with a shipment of rice.

The money will be sent directly to Japan to be spent on buying materials and food for relief operations, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya told the cabinet.

Thailand plans to send a team of 35 medics to Japan Monday night.
