New censure debate against Thai PM Abhisit set for 15-17 March

BANGKOK, 7 March 2011 (NNT) – The no-confidence debate against the Government has been rescheduled for 15-17 March, causing dissatisfaction on the opposition side due to the reduced duration.

House Speaker Chai Chidchob gave an interview to the media that the upcoming censure debate would take place during 15-17 March while the voting session would be held on 18 March. He said the new date had been reported to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva for acknowledgement.

However, the new schedule has outraged the opposition Pheu Thai Party as it was earlier planned for four days from 9-12 March but has now been cut down to three days. Pheu Thai Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit criticized Mr Chai for conspiring with the Government to alter the timeframe already agreed upon and called for his resignation.
