Lab tests on Thailand tourist deaths under way, officials say

Bangkok – It will take at least a month for laboratories to return the results on the cause of four tourists’ deaths in the same guest house in northern Thailand, Thai officials said Friday.

‘We will have to wait at least a month for lab results from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control Prevention) in the US and a similar lab in Japan,’ said Panakda Disakul, governor of the city of Chiang Mai, 650 kilometres north of Bangkok.

The New Zealand government has expressed dissatisfaction with Thailand’s handling of the investigation into the deaths, which occurred at the same hotel over a six-week period.
