Jail security stepped up in Bangkok as red shirts gather

Trouble expected for protest anniversary

Security is being stepped up at prisons where red shirt members are expected to turn up to demand the release of their leaders being held there.

Chartchai Sutthiklom, director-general of the Corrections Department, said he has ordered security to be tightened at prisons, especially where red shirt leaders are held in Bangkok, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani.

Red shirt supporters will demand that their leaders, facing terrorism charges in connection with the political violence in April and May, be freed.

They have planned three days of activities to step up their public presence.
