Thai People warned of flood related diseases

BANGKOK, 29 August 2010 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health has asked people to take extra precautions against flood-related diseases during the rainy season, and to keep themselves warm to prevent seasonal flu infection.

Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit stated after the opening ceremony of a new building at Yasothon hospital that it is now rainy season in Thailand. Several regions especially the north and northeastern have encountered flood problems triggered by frequent torrential rains.

The ministry has instructed the Provincial Office of Public Health and hospitals across the country to closely monitor the widespread of the flood-related diseases during this time of the year, and to mobilize medical units to provide access to medical care nationwide.

In the meantime, people are also advised to keep themselves warm in order to prevent themselves being infected by flu, and to stay on high alert for diseases, one among which is Leptospirosis. People who come down with flu-like symptoms are advised to see their doctors for treatment immediately.
