Security boost for Sunday’s Bangkok city and district councillor elections

BANGKOK, Aug 28 – Security has been stepped up across the Thai capital ahead of Sunday’s election for city and district council members while the poll agency expected more than half of all eligible voters will turn out for polling.

Senior advisor to the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Wutthi Phuawade on Saturday called a meeting of commanders of Metropolitan Police Division 1 to 9 to lay out security plans for the election of Bangkok city council and district council members on Sunday August 29.

Gen Wutthi has instructed ten police stations to closely monitor the situation as polling complaints have been frequently made in their supervised areas.

Police officers will be deployed at 10,766 polling units across Bangkok on Sunday.
