Journalist shot in Bangkok says he’ll return to Thai streets to cover conflict

Canadian journalist Nelson Rand is home after being shot three times during Bangkok’s violent protests this May.

“Ironically, my worst wound right now is not from a bullet, but from a ride to the hospital,” Rand said in a phone interview Wednesday.

When a stranger drove him to the hospital on a motorcycle after he was shot, Rand’s foot dragged along the pavement and was cut to the bone. “Obviously, I can’t complain about that,” he said.

Rand was scheduled to speak about his experiences at the University of B.C. on Wednesday night.

He has a master’s degree from the university.
