Tsunami warning cancelled in Phuket

An earthquake around the Western Sumatra in Indonesia, which registered 7.8 on the Richter Scale, prompted a brief tsunami warning throughout Thailand yesterday.

Tremors were reported in tall buildings in Bangkok at 5pm and there were fears that it may affect Phuket.

However at 7.10pm the Thai Meteorological Department released an update cancelling the tsunami warning.
