Iranian Man Tasered After Syringe Attack at Phuket Hotel

A chaotic and alarming incident unfolded at a hotel in Phuket’s Karon subdistrict on the evening of March 17, 2025, when a 44-year-old Iranian man, identified as R. B. F., allegedly went on a rampage, chasing hotel staff with a syringe. The dramatic scene, which lasted nearly an hour, ended with Farshi being subdued by police using a taser.

The Karon Police Station received a distress call at 6:11 PM from a terrified hotel staff member reporting the disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found “F.” on his hotel room balcony, armed with a syringe in his left hand and recording the scene with his phone in his right hand. Witnesses reported that the Iranian had been splashing an unidentified liquid from the syringe and had earlier chased hotel workers, attempting to stab them, which caused widespread panic among staff and guests.

Despite efforts by police to negotiate and de-escalate the situation, “F.” remained uncooperative. After nearly an hour of failed dialogue, reinforcements were called in, and officers made the decision to deploy a taser. A single shot brought the man under control, ending the tense standoff. The Iranian man sustained minor injuries during the incident and was transported to the Karon Police Station for further investigation.

Authorities are working to determine the motive behind R. B. F.’s erratic behavior. Preliminary investigations suggest that drug use may have played a role. Police are conducting tests to confirm whether substances were involved in the incident. The Iranian Embassy has been notified and is assisting with the case to ensure appropriate follow-up actions.

Under Thai law, R. B. F. could face charges under Section 397 of the Criminal Code for bullying, threatening, or causing embarrassment or annoyance to others, which carries a penalty of up to 5,000 baht. If drug tests return positive results, additional charges may be pursued, potentially escalating the legal consequences.

The incident has left the local community and hotel staff shaken. While no one was injured during the ordeal, the event has raised concerns about safety and security in the area, particularly in a popular tourist destination like Phuket. Hotel management and local authorities are reviewing security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation progresses.
