Bomb Attacks Kill Six Turkish Soldiers In Southeast Turkey

Two bomb attacks by Kurdish militants have killed six members of Turkey’s armed forces in the country’s southeast.

The Turkish military reported July 10 that four soldiers were killed when a bomb destroyed their vehicle on the road between Semdinli and Aktutun in Hakkari Province, along the border with Iraq.

Another soldier and a member of the state-sponsored village guard militia were killed in a car bomb attack on a military outpost in the Ercis district of Van Province overnight.

Ankara blames the attacks on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group.

A two-year-old cease-fire between the PKK and the Turkish government collapsed last July.

More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict since the PKK, designated a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States, and European Union, began its insurgency in 1984.
