Thai government ready to pay farmers within one week

ANGKOK, March 4 – Thailand’s caretaker government will be ready within one week to initiate overdue payments to farmers from the rice pledging scheme after the Election Commission (EC) permitted the government to withdraw Bt20 billion from the central fund, according to caretaker Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach.

Mr Yanyong said the money could be payable to farmers within a week after the EC reportedly approved the payment.
