Chiang Mai Airport asks locals to refrain from floating lanterns in its vicinity

CHIANG MAI, 13 November 2013 (NNT) – The director of Chiang Mai International Airport has voiced concerns over possible accidents that may happen during Yi Peng Lantern Festival, a northern tradition equivalent to Loy Krathong.

The director proposed that authorities be informed in advance of any lantern floating activity taking place in the areas close to the airport in order for them to arrange for suitable air traffic control.

Lantern floating is widely popular among locals and tourists alike.
