AOT set to renovate Don Mueang Airport to accommodate passengers

BANGKOK, 24 May 2013 (NNT) – Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) is set to renovate Don Mueang Airport’s Terminal 2 to accommodate the growing number of passengers while accelerating the expansion of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

AOT executives made known that up to 3 billion baht will be spent on the renovation project at Don Mueang Airport in a bid to attract more low-cost airlines. The improvement of Terminal 2 of Don Mueang is aimed at helping reduce congestion at Terminal 1, which will reach full capacity soon.

Since Suvarnabhumi Airport was opened in 2006, only Terminal 1 of Don Mueang has been brought back to service while Terminal 2 has been left unused.

In parallel with the improvement plan for Don Mueang, AOT is also expediting the Phase 2 construction of Suvarnabhumi Airport. After completion of both projects, the capital’s two airports are expected to have the capacity to serve an estimated 87.5 million passengers a year by 2016.
