Lampang experiences slight earthquake

LAMPANG, 25 August 2012 (NNT) – Mr. Somboon Kositanon, director of the mineral resources office in Lampang province, has reported a slight earthquake occurring in the northern region of Thailand. The quake, measuring 1.5 on the Richter scale, occurred in Wang Nuea district, Lampang province.

The earthquake is considered minor in geological terms. Mr. Somboon said citizens might not have even felt the tremors. The quake was caused by a movement in the Phayao fault line, which is considered a powerful fault line. The earth’s crust at the aforementioned fault line moved as a result of the temblor that occurred due to earthquakes in foreign countries.
