PHUKET, 20 March 2012 (NNT) – Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra paid a visit to the tsunami memorial in Phuket, amidst warm welcome by local residents.
The premier has assured residents that the government will give full support to revive tourism in the South.
The memorial is currently under a renovation process. It has become one of Thailand’s historical sites to remember those who passed away in the deadly tsunami attack on December 26th, 2004. Phang Nga province has asked for a 42 million baht budget for the renovation, after it deemed the memorial needs a facelift.
The plan covers a 16-rai land area consisting of an art atrium, a community health park, shops, a tourist information center, and a natural disaster information center.
