Thailand launches website to increase export channels

BANGKOK, 16 September 2011 (NNT) – Thailand’s Department of Export Promotion (DEP) has opened a website,, as a new channel for Thai entrepreneurs who are keen on exporting their products through e-commerce.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittirat Na Ranong stated that the website would serve as an additional export channel aimed to facilitate the distribution of Thai products to foreign customers in every corner of the world and increase Thai exporters’ potential and opportunities.

According to the Minister, representatives from foreign trade promotion agencies in Thailand as well as trade associations, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Industries will be invited to contribute to the enhancement of the website.

Mr Kittirat believed e-commerce trading would become more popular this year while Thai exports would expand by about 15 percent.

Meanwhile, DEP Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanaga disclosed that trading via e-commerce within Thailand on a business-to-business (B2B) basis was worth 190 billion THB each year, accounting for 36 percent of the overall trading. Therefore, with alliances formed with both domestic and international organizations related to online trading, she said would be an important tool to help Thai exporters expand their businesses and reach out to more prospective customers abroad.
