Chiang Mai flood damage Bt1 billion: Chiang Mai mayor

CHIANG MAI, Sept 29 – Chiang Mai mayor Tassanai Buranupakorn on Thursday apologised to city dwellers for his failure to prevent the Ping River from flooding the commercial area of Thailand’s largest northern province, which he initially estimated losses of at least one billion baht.

The mayor expressed regret that Chiang Mai’s downtown was hit by one of the province’s worst inundation on Wednesday and the situation remains critical.
