Thailand sets new world water gun record; road fatalities up

BANGKOK, April 14 — Thailand has set a new world record for water gun shootouts Wednesday, the first day of the Songkran festival, Thailand’s traditional New Year, overtaking Spain, the previous record holder.

A total of 3,477 Songkran revellers sprayed water from their water guns at each other for 10 minutes at Bangkok’s CentralWorld shopping complex at Ratchaprasong at 6.17pm Wednesday, shortly after the 6pm daily playing of the national anthem.
