Death toll rises to 188 on 5th day of Songkran: DDPM

BANGKOK, 16 April 2011 (NNT) – The death toll over the first five days of the Songkran Festival has reached 188 with a total of 2,584 accidents, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

The DDPM announced that 443 road accidents were reported on 15 April, which was the fifth day of the seven dangerous days of Songkran, along with 40 deaths and 470 injuries. As a result, the casualty toll since 11 April has accumulated to 188 fatalities and 2,786 injuries while the number of accidents now stands at 2,584, a decrease from the same period last year by 279 cases or 9.79 percent.
