Thailand not affected by radiation in Japan: Suthep

BANGKOK, 16 March 2011 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban has voiced his belief that Thailand will not be affected by the radioactive leakage in Japan after several nuclear power plants were damaged by tremor and tsunami.

Mr Suthep stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was monitoring the situation in Japan closely upon widespread concerns regarding radiation leakage from damaged nuclear power plants, believing that Thailand would not be affected.

As for assistance for Thai nationals in Japan, the Deputy Prime Minister remarked that there should not be a problem, but it must be evaluated case by case depending on each area where Thai people were residing whether evacuation would be needed or not.
