Thai military exempts two “types” of men from conscription

Bangkok – Thailand’s Defence Ministry has coined new classifications for transgender men to be exempted from conscription to avoid offensive stereotypes, news reports said Sunday.

In the next conscription period from April 1 to 11, draftees who have undergone breast transplants will be classified as Type 2, while those who have undergone full sex change operations will be labelled Type 3, the Bangkok Post reported.

Type 1 are conscripts who have a masculine appearance.

  1. I never heard of this before. Never thought that those who have undergone sexual operation can still enlist in the military.
