Monk, 3 soldiers wounded in Pattani bombing

PATTANI, Jan 28 – A bomb blast wounded one monk and three soldiers escorting the monk during his morning alms receiving circuit on Friday in Pattani’s provincial seat.

The remote-controlled explosive device, weighing about seven kilogrammes, was hidden in an iron box and placed at a base of an electricity power pole. It was triggered by a community radio signal and exploded, injuring Phra Watcharapong Sutha, a monk from Lakmuang temple.

Pvt Kritsada Buaban suffered severe shrapnel wounds in his stomach and two others, Pvt Veerapong Prasertsri and Pvt Seksan Inphetch were wounded and remain hospitalised.
