PHUKET – A Thai passenger triggered mass panic at Phuket International Airport on Friday afternoon after falsely claiming there was a bomb aboard a Bangkok-bound flight, forcing emergency protocols and delaying travel plans for 200 passengers.

The incident unfolded when the passenger, onboard an Airbus aircraft scheduled to depart for Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), alerted a flight attendant about an alleged explosive device in the overhead compartment. Following strict safety procedures, the pilot immediately diverted the plane back to an isolated parking bay while airport authorities activated emergency protocols in line with international aviation standards.

Phuket Airport’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) swiftly coordinated with security teams, airline staff, and local law enforcement, including Phuket Provincial Police and Tourist Police. A comprehensive sweep of the aircraft, baggage, and passengers confirmed no explosives were present.

Authorities detained the individual, who was later transferred to Sakhu Police Station for interrogation and potential legal action. After the all-clear was given, passengers were instructed to reclaim and verify their luggage before reboarding the flight.
