Chiang Mai National Park Closes Waterfalls Amid Flood Fears

CHIANG MAI – Doi Suthep-Pui National Park has temporarily closed access to three popular waterfalls as heavy rains raise concerns over potential flash floods. Park officials made the decision after observing dangerously murky water flow at the sites, signaling increased landslide and flood risks.

The affected waterfalls—Mae Sa and Tat Mok in Mae Rim district, along with Mok Fah in Mae Taeng district—will remain off-limits until conditions improve. Authorities have also alerted communities living near park creeks to prepare for possible overflow and sudden flooding.

The precaution comes as persistent downpours continue to disrupt daily life in Chiang Mai. Downtown areas remain submerged, with floodwaters hindering commutes to schools and workplaces. Some residents have resorted to parking vehicles on bridges and elevated roads to avoid water damage.

Park officials emphasized that the closures prioritize visitor safety and will be lifted once water levels stabilize. Meanwhile, provincial authorities are monitoring the situation closely as more rain is forecast in the coming days.
