BANGKOK, 30 August 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has allayed public fears over the spread of Zika virus in the country, affirming the situation is still manageable as appropriate measures are in place.

After the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) declared Thailand as a “red alert” country for an increase in the transmission of Zika virus, DDC Director-General Dr Amnuay Gajeena clarified that the ECDC’s announcement was not based on well-rounded information while its categorization of infected countries was also conducted differently from that of the World Health Organization.
