Thailand shows clear stance on ivory trade elimination

BANGKOK, 26 August 2015 (NNT) – Thailand has demonstrated its strong resolve to eliminate the illegal ivory trade of African elephants to CITES member states, aiming to be the central country of ASEAN to eliminate this issue.

The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has joined the Destruction of Confiscated Ivory in Thailand from cases that have been concluded, with witnesses from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) member states, related agencies, and the general public at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
