Thai worker jailed for taking painkillers into United Arab Emirates

A Thai worker was sentenced earlier this week to a one-year jail term in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for bringing painkillers and other medicines into the country, Thai Labour Ministry permanent secretary Jeerasak Sukonthachart said Wednesday.

The Thai mechanic, who has worked in the UAE for seven years, was arrested in possession of 195 paracetamol pills, 195 allergy pills and 30 muscle-relaxant pills at Abu Dhabi Airport in October.
