Yingluck Shinawatra worried over flood disaster in northern Thailand

BANGKOK, 9 September 2012 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has expressed concerns over the flood-induced disaster in Thailand’s North and instructed related agencies to promptly provide help to those in need.

Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) Director-General Wiboon Sanguanpong said that the recent heavy rain in several parts of Thailand has caused severe flooding in many provinces.

Mr. Wiboon said all DDPM offices in related provinces and respective provincial governors have been urged to speedily provide assistance to those in need.

According to the DDPM chief, the northern region has seen the most serious disaster, with at least one of its rail tracks hit by mudslide resulting in the suspension of train service.
