Obama congratulates new Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra

BANGKOK, 14 August 2011 (NNT) – The White House revealed that US President Barack Obama congratulated Thailand’s first female Prime Minister, praising the election as a sign of success of the democratic process.

According to the White House, President Obama personally made a phone call to Ms. Yingluck on Saturday to congratulate her on the historic election and being the first ever female Prime Minister of Thailand.

During the telephone conversation, the two leaders also emphasized an enduring friendship and alliance between the US and Thailand and also vowed to collaborate to maintain continued strong bilateral relationship as well as peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region.
