Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hits Burma

Bangkok March 24, 2011 (AIT News) – A magnitude 7.0 earthquake has hit northeastern Myanmar on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 9:55 EST.

The quake measured magnitude 7.0. The earthquake struck 589 km (365 miles) NE of Rangoon, Myanmar, 89 km (55 miles) N of Chiang Rai, Thailand and 772 km (479 miles) NNE of Bangkok, Thailand.

At least 150 people were killed in Myanmar. Another person was killed in Mae Sai, Thailand.

The quake was also felt in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. The earthquake caused buildings to sway in Bangkok.
