Six Thais missing in Christchurch quake, New Zealand

BANGKOK, 23 February 2011 (NNT) – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed that six Thai nationals in Christchurch, New Zealand, are now missing following the deadly tremor yesterday.

In the latest development of the earthquake disaster in Christchurch, Deputy Director-General of the Information Department and Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Jesda Katavetin stated that the Royal Thai Embassy in Wellington had reported six Thai nursing students as missing. However, they are not yet presumed dead and their names have been submitted to the search and rescue unit.

According to witnesses, the Thai students were in a building that collapsed when the tremor struck. Over 100 victims have been rescued from the rubble, but the six have not been found.
