Khon Kaen province declares 26 districts disaster zones

BANGKOK, 16 January 2011 (NNT) – 26 districts in Khon Kaen Province have been declared cold-spell disaster zones. Over 150,000 people in the province are in dire need of warm clothes

The weather is so cold in in Baan Ped district, Khon Kaen, that the elderly and children in particular, most lacking warm clothing, have resorted to building a bonfire in front of their homes to keep themselves warm before going to bed.

As the mercury in Khon Kaen Province has continuously dropped, particularly in the districts of Pu-pha-man, Khok-Pho-Chai, Wiang-Kao, Phoo-wiang, and Nong-na-khum, the Province has announced those districts and 23 others as cold-spell disaster zones.
