Cambodian Attacks Continue but Intensity Declines Substantially: Thai Defence Ministry
BANGKOK – Cambodian forces continued strikes along the Thai border on Sunday, the fourteenth day of renewed hostilities, though the intensity of attacks has dropped considerably, according to the Thai Ministry of Defence. In a daily briefing, Defence Ministry spokesman Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri reported that Cambodian troops fired rockets from BM-21 multiple launchers at the Chub Ta Mok border pass in Surin province at 6:35 a.m.

He confirmed that Thai forces now maintain control of the strategic Hill 350 and the Ta Kwai temple ruins in Surin, with intense exchanges of fire limited largely to the Huai Ta Maria area of Si Sa Ket province. Fighting also persisted in the Ban Nong Chan, Ban Nong Ya Kaew, and Ban Klong Pang areas of Sa Kaeo province. Meanwhile, Thai marines secured control of the Thma Da Casino complex in Trat province, which had been used as a Cambodian military stronghold.
“Clashes persist along the border, but their intensity has decreased significantly,” Rear Adm Surasant stated.
Colonel Richa Suksuwanon, deputy army spokesman, noted that Thai forces now control more battlefield areas and that zones of heavy combat have shrunk. He explained that flat terrain in some contested areas requires troops to advance with caution due to ongoing shelling and landmines.

In a separate development, a Thai marine was injured on Sunday morning after stepping on a newly planted PMN-2 anti-personnel landmine while clearing a path in the Ban Nong Ree area of Trat province. Rear Admiral Korajak Yosthasarn, deputy navy spokesman, condemned Cambodia’s use of such mines, stating the injured serviceman lost his right foot. He also accused Cambodian forces of using civilians as human shields in a Thai-controlled area of Trat.
Air Force spokesman Air Marshal Jackkrit Thammavichai denied Cambodian allegations that Thai airstrikes had killed many civilians, calling such reports fake news. He emphasized that the Royal Thai Air Force uses precision-guided munitions to target only military facilities—such as command centers, weapons depots, and supply routes—while taking precautions to avoid civilian harm. As an example, he noted that a recent strike on the O’Chik Bridge in Oddar Meanchey province was conducted at night to minimize risk to civilian traffic.
