SA KAEO – Clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated sharply on Sunday morning, with artillery fire striking a residential area in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province and killing one Thai soldier. The hostilities, which reignited long-standing territorial disputes between the two Southeast Asian neighbors, began before dawn and intensified around 7:20 a.m.

Multiple artillery shells launched from the Cambodian side landed in a civilian community near Ban Nong Ya Kaeo in Khok Sung district, sparking fires that damaged several homes. The soldier’s death brings the total Thai military fatalities in the recent conflict to 22.
Cambodia launched a continuing artillery barrage at parts of the eastern Thai province of Sa Kaeo, killing one Thai soldier and destroying civilian village houses.
