SAMUT PRAKAN — A major collision involving an 18-wheel truck and a passenger songthaew (shared taxi) on Sukhumvit Road left 12 people injured on Thursday morning, with two victims sustaining serious wounds. The accident occurred near the Bang Pu Highway Police Station in Mueang District, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

The incident took place as the truck, registered in Rayong, struck the rear of a white Toyota Vigo songthaew operating on Route 36 from Pak Nam to Khlong Dan. The impact caused significant damage to the songthaew, including collapsed passenger steps, shattered rear lights, and a crushed rear panel. A red Yamaha Spark motorcycle was also overturned near the truck’s wheels, and a red Toyota Corolla was caught in the secondary impacts.

Emergency teams from Sikarin Samut Prakan Hospital, the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and the Samut Prakan Rescue Association provided immediate first aid before transporting the injured to hospitals. Nine passengers were taken to Sikarin Samut Prakan Hospital, while three others were admitted to Samut Prakan Hospital.

Witnesses and passengers reported that the truck failed to brake while attempting to change lanes, crashing into the songthaew during slow-moving traffic. The truck driver claimed he was driving normally from Rayong to the Bang Pu Industrial Estate, but the songthaew driver contested this, stating traffic was congested at the time of the collision.
