Popular ‘The Voice Thailand’ Contestant Killed in Chiang Mai Chain-Reaction Crash

CHIANG MAI — Boonrit “Rodbus” Charoenwong, a beloved contestant from The Voice Thailand Season 6, died on Tuesday after a speeding pickup truck carrying bottled water crashed into a power pole, triggering a catastrophic chain reaction that brought down 24 high-voltage poles and caused an estimated 10 million baht in damage.

Chiang Mai still No.1 for road accidents

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Nhong Hor Road in Muang district, a bend notorious for previous crashes. The pickup, traveling at high speed, missed the turn and snapped a power pole in half, causing subsequent poles to collapse like dominos. Live wires sparked fires, igniting the Him Khong restaurant and damaging at least 20 vehicles, multiple homes, and businesses.

Boonrit, 27, was a passenger in the vehicle and was rushed to Nakornping Hospital with severe injuries but did not survive. Another man, aged 30–35, was also injured. Panicked residents fled as sparks showered the area, and approximately 50 households lost power.

Repair crews worked for hours using cranes to clear debris and restore electricity, with most power resumed by evening. Police cordoned off the site for investigation and damage assessment. Initial findings suggest speed was a key factor, and compensation claims will be processed once full evaluations are complete.
