French Tourist Hospitalized After Violent Altercation with Ride-Hailing Driver in Pattaya

PATTAYA – A French national was left unconscious and seriously injured following a brutal attack by a Bolt ride-hailing driver in the early hours of September 21. The incident, which began as a minor traffic dispute, has prompted a police investigation and underscored recurring tensions in the popular tourist destination.

Foreign Tourists Knock Out After Provoking Brawl in Pattaya’s Soi 6

The altercation erupted when the 55-year-old tourist, identified only as Mr. N, attempted to cross a street in South Pattaya away from a designated zebra crossing. Authorities report that the Thai driver of a white Honda HR-V sounded his horn to alert the pedestrian, leading to a confrontation after Mr. N reportedly struck the vehicle. Although the initial encounter appeared to de-escalate, the situation reignited when the Frenchman allegedly hit the car a second time. This prompted the driver to exit his vehicle and deliver a single punch to Mr. N’s face, knocking him unconscious as he fell and hit his head on the ground.

Following the assault, the driver swiftly fled the scene toward the Phra Tamnak Mountain area. A witness provided emergency services with critical assistance, ensuring Mr. N was transported to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for treatment of a serious head injury. The same witness also recorded the attacker’s vehicle registration details, which have been handed over to the police.

Law enforcement officials are now awaiting Mr. N’s recovery to obtain his formal statement. The investigation is proceeding with a review of available CCTV footage from the area to positively identify and locate the suspect. This case bears a resemblance to a January incident where a foreign tourist assaulted a Thai Bolt driver, though the outcome of that prior case was not publicly disclosed.
