BANGKOK, Thailand – A 23-year-old Russian man was restrained by security staff after climbing outside a controlled area beside the arrivals roadway at Suvarnabhumi Airport on August 14, 2026, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

The man, who had been due to fly onwards to Koh Samui at 8:05 PM that evening, was reported to have been shouting and behaving agitatedly before moving beyond a barrier outside the Level 2 arrivals terminal. Airport security, rapid-response staff, a psychologist, emergency medics, rescue workers, and medical personnel were called to the scene after Suvarnabhumi Airport’s operations centre received the alert.

Officials said the Russian national was standing in a high-risk, controlled area outside the terminal building. The operation was overseen by Flight Sergeant Major Wuttichat Busuwa, the duty head of security at Suvarnabhumi Airport. An inflatable safety cushion was positioned below as a precaution while staff planned how to bring the man back safely. A team was assigned to distract him, and at an opportune moment, Wuttichat and his team moved in, restrained the man, and pulled him back inside the safe area.

The man was then taken to Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station to calm down. Airport officials also contacted the Russian embassy and sought to contact relatives so they could take responsibility for his care. Checks found that the man had entered Thailand on August 10. The reason for his behaviour has not yet been established, with officials saying they would need to wait until he had settled before conducting a formal interview.
