Typhoon Ragasa Disrupts Thai Airways Flights to Hong Kong and Taiwan

BANGKOK – Thai Airways International has issued a travel advisory for passengers flying to Hong Kong and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from Monday through Wednesday, as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches the region. The airline is strongly urging travelers on affected routes to monitor their flight status closely due to anticipated significant disruptions.

Heavy Rains and Flooding Threaten Multiple Thai Regions as Typhoon Strengthens Monsoon

The national carrier specified that flights TG630 and TG631, operating between Bangkok and the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung on Monday and Tuesday, could be impacted. The potential for disruption extends to Hong Kong routes on Tuesday and Wednesday, involving flights TG602, TG603, TG628, TG629, TG638, and TG639. Additionally, flights TG600 and TG601 may experience delays specifically on Wednesday.

In an official statement, Thai Airways emphasized, “Passengers scheduled to travel on these flights are strongly advised to check the latest flight status prior to departure.” The warning comes as Hong Kong authorities are considering an unprecedented 36-hour closure of Hong Kong International Airport, potentially starting from 6 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Thai time) on Tuesday, in anticipation of severe weather conditions from the approaching typhoon.

The storm system, which has already brought heavy rainfall to the Philippines, is currently on a path toward Taiwan, threatening to cause widespread travel chaos across the region.
