Authorities have managed to take control of Songkhla provincial prison following a riot by about 200 prisoners in the morning which left one warder and eight prisoners slightly injured and two buildings gutted.

Led by Lt-Gen Prakarn Cholayuth, commander of the 4th Army Region, and Mr Ruangsak Suwaree, deputy director-general of Corrections Department, the authorities agreed to look into the problem of overcrowding as demanded by the protesting prisoners.
