Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul assigned as new CAPO head

BANGKOK, 2 December 2013 (NNT) – Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has appointed Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul as the new head of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO).

In accordance with a decision announced by the Prime Minister at a meeting with CAPO, Mr Surapong has replaced Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok as chief of the center.

Mr Surapong said the ongoing political protests have damaged Thailand’s reputation and overall economy. He elaborated that the government respects people’s right to express political opinions but the rule of law must also be respected by demonstrators.
