PATTANI, May 7 – A subdistrict municipal clerk was shot dead at a food shop in this restive southern province today, while police in a nearby province intercepted a man allegedly smuggling motorcycles for insurgents to use in bombings.

Mayo subdistrict municipal clerk Theeraluck Suwannarat was entering a food shop for lunch in the provincial seat when two men, arriving on a motorcycle, shot him.
